Diploma in Hospital Management

Certification: Diploma in Hospital Management (Diplomado en Gestión de clínicas y hospitales.)

Length: 12 months.

The Universidad de Mendoza long with the Instituto de Salud Pública y Gestión Sanitaria (The Sanitary Management and Public Health Institute) organize this university diploma.

Due to the inclusion of new technologies, knowledge progress, demographic and epidemiologic changes, and society and individuals’ awareness of their own rights, (within a frame of limited resources,) the complexity of health institutions has made the management of hospitals and health institutions a multidisciplinary specialty, where all the health professional branches –managers and administrators, economists, architects and lawyers among others) end.

This course purpose is to study with wider and multi-sectorial vision of the problem and management tools to obtain results.

Aimed at:

Physicians, pharmacist, biochemist and other health care professional branches, architects, lawyers, accountants, economists and managers related to health institutions or having the interest of being involved in this activity.



  • To understand our own health context, health care characteristics and problems.
  • To learn basics about health management and economy.
  • To learn specifically quality tools of hospital management.

  • The case of the Netherlands. Euro Health Consumer Index - EHCI.
  • Epidemiology management. Demographic and epidemiological transition. Population’s aging impact. Risks Factors.
  • Health Economics. Opportunity cost. Demand and supply. Imperfect and competitive markets. Efficiency and equity.
  • Health market. Features of the health insurance market.
  • Evidence-based medicine. Economic evaluation of health technologies. Funding decision.
  • Principles of administration. Strategic direction. Situation analysis (SWOT). Marketing health.
  • Accounting. Concepts. Direct and indirect costs. Fixed and variable costs. Balances. Public Sector Accounting with reference to health systems. DRG: diagnosis-related groups. MBO: Management by objectives.

This is a part-time attendance or blended course, with a contact load of 400 hours, 200 hours out of them demand full classroom attendance with theoretical and practical classes, 150 hours are non-classroom, implying online activities participation –like forums and mandatory tasks- and lastly 50 hours for the final paper. Students must end the assessment in module modality and carry out a final work, not defined yet.
This is a blended course of classroom and online participation.
