Graduate’s profile

This degree course program is aimed at the training of  a university graduate engineer able to work and research upon medical demand; being, at the same time, able to detect the needs arising from those problems or aspects which are non-solved or lacking a medical approach origin.

This engineer has a broad knowledge in terms of electronics and computer science, as well as biological system structure, working and mechanics. This graduate is qualified to apply this knowledge for not only the usage and production of medical &biological equipment, but also the assessment of the conditions of installation, working, usage and preventive maintenance corresponding to medical technology, hospital, and general biology equipments and material.

The bioengineer is able to permanently be part of the health team, increasing not only her//his professional development chances but also those belonging to the team.; at the same time exploring new ways to provide solutions to the people health prevention and assistance.

Degree Scope

1. To carry out and conduct the study of feasibility, project, design, construction, quality control, commercialization, installation, commissioning, test-run, start-up, adjusting or calibration, maintenance and repairing of: 

  • Installations or facilities, equipment, systems and system parts about biomedical technology, used in the human and animal field.
  • Equipments, systems and system parts used in the acquisition and processing of signals and physical or chemical magnitudes, particularly those generated by human beings, animal or environment. 
  • Materials; elements or items; components; systems and system parts of prosthesis, orthosis, artificial organs; and systems and system parts for the maintenance or improving of human or animal life quality.

2. To participate in the production, amendment or change, assessment, adjustment checking and accomplishment of rules referred to the usage safety of:

  • Installations or settings, equipments, systems and system parts about biomedical technology, used in the human and animal field;
  • Equipments, systems and system parts used in the acquisition and processing of signals and physical or chemical magnitudes, particularly those generated by human beings, animal or environment;
  • Materials; elements or items; components; systems and system parts of prosthesis, orthosis, artificial organs; and systems and system parts for the maintenance or improving of human or animal life quality.

3. To carry out and manage the planning, design, organization, adjusting & checking to security and safety rules of premises and installations associated to biomedical technology in private or public hospital units, laboratories, and health or rehabilitation centers, as well as every aspect related to the usage safety; ionized or non-ionized radiations, and biological risk that are considered and included within the industrial field and research centers.

4. To advise in any and all processes of purchasing program production; to produce rules, guidelines and purchase documents and tenders; to verify assets and /or supplies of equipment, systems and system parts of biomedical technology and  its accessories, complements, premises and installations, and devices that are necessary for each corresponding purpose.

5. To carry out arbitrations, expert reports, appraisals and assessments about topics of biomedical technology, its components, accessories, installation and premises and devices required for each corresponding purpose.

6. To advise in terms of industrial safety, security and hygiene; environment contamination; and handling of waste considered a life and environment risk.

7. To train human resources and biomedical engineering.

8. To carry out and manage programs and tasks of biomedical engineering research and development.
