Healthy Eating– Good Habits Workshop

Interactive workshops on healthy eating habits were held.

During the year 2019 the Bachelor in Nutrition degree course of study, from the Universidad de Mendoza Río Cuarto Headquarters, participated in the project “Workshops on Healthy Eating and Good Habits”, a proposal of the Young Participatory Project of the Municipality of Río Cuarto.

The main objective of this activity was to contribute to a change in eating habits in the youth of the city, which lead to improved health and quality of life.

Six interactive workshops on healthy eating habits were carried out with the participation of 300 young people from our city to generate multiplying agents. Fifty students from different public and private schools participated in each workshop. And, within the framework of World Food Day, a closing of the activity where fresh fruits were distributed, interactive games were held with people who spontaneously passed through the square and talked with them about the importance of incorporating good eating habits.

During the different scheduled activities, the following Ten Habits of Healthy Eating were highlighted and worked:
• Incorporate daily food from all groups and perform at least 30 minutes of physical activity.
• Drink 8 glasses of safe water daily.
• Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily in a variety of types and colors.
• Reduce the use of salt and the consumption of foods high in sodium.
• Limit the consumption of sugary drinks and foods high in fat, sugar and salt.
• Eat daily milk, yogurt or cheese, preferably skim.
• When eating meat, remove visible fat, increase fish consumption and include eggs.
• Eat legumes, preferably whole grains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn or cassava.
• Consume raw oil as a condiment, dried fruits or seeds.
• The consumption of alcoholic beverages must be responsible. Children, adolescents and pregnant women should not consume them. Always avoid them while driving.
